Grótta lighthouse

Nature reserve at the western tip of Seltjarnarnes where the sea opens the sky to the north and west, a few minutes' drive from downtown; watch from the mainland shore because the causeway to the lighthouse islet floods at high tide.

Before you go

The causeway to the islet floods at high tide, and the islet is closed May to July (nesting): check the tide before crossing.

Dress for standing still in the cold, bring a head torch with a red light, and park only where parking is allowed. A forecast is guidance, not a promise: check the road and weather warnings for Iceland before a night drive. See our winter safety note.
