E10 lakeside car park east of Abisko
Small car park between the E10 and the south shore of Torneträsk, a short drive east of Abisko: the same lake view as the village shore without the village lights.
Why it works for the aurora
- View
- North over Torneträsk (the lake is directly north of the road here); mountains on the far shore are 10+ km away, so the northern sky stays open..
- Darkness
- Very dark sky, grade 0 on a scale from 0 (darkest) to 5. No towns or road lights nearby; the faintest aurora shows.
- Aurora
- Under the auroral oval: aurora can be overhead even on quiet nights.
Getting there
- Distance
- About 6 km by road from Abisko (estimate), roughly 7 min by car.
- Parking
- Car park beside the E10; size and winter clearing not known.
- Coordinates
- 68.3468, 18.9499 · Open in OpenStreetMap
Before you go
Do not cross the railway. Keep well off the E10 (heavy ore trucks) and stay off the lake ice.
Dress for standing still in the cold, bring a head torch with a red light, and park only where parking is allowed. A forecast is guidance, not a promise: check the road and weather warnings for Sweden before a night drive. See our winter safety note.
